Yes. No transfers are required when traveling up and down the Eastern Seaboard except when departing from Albany (groups will transfer through NYC).

There is no TSA screening for train travel. Group Leaders are responsible for communicating the consequences of bringing prohibited items to their travelers. For additional peace of mind, each train has Amtrak attendants and security presence on board to ensure travelers safety.

We’re happy to be working with Amtrak for all of our train tours.

Amtrak allows one checked bag and one carry-on bag. However, we always encourage travelers to pack light! You'll be toting your own luggage around at the station and hotels, so bring only what you need—one small carry-on suitcase and your EF backpack should be enough.

Checked luggage is stored in the baggage car at the start of the journey and retrieved upon arrival. Students won't have access to it during the ride, so they should pack anything they need for the trip (snacks, entertainment, a light layer) in their carry-on. If students bring only a carry-on and their EF backpack, their luggage can stay with them in the train car.

A long train ride is actually one of the most memorable parts of the trip—and a learning opportunity in itself! Here's what students can expect:

• Scenic exploration: Trains travel through areas students may never have seen before. Encourage them to look out the window and take it all in!

• Journaling & reflection: A great time to document their trip and process their experiences.

• Downtime & connection: Students can chat with classmates, read, listen to music, or simply relax. Travel itself builds bonds!

• Dining car experience: Students can grab a snack or meal in the dining or café car, giving them a chance to move around and experience another unique aspect of train travel.

We always recommend teachers and chaperones come prepared with a few simple games or conversation starters to keep energy up!

Groups do not have assigned seating; however, Amtrak helps ensure that most groups will sit together. Chaperones should be prepared to split into smaller groups if needed.
